Tether Freezes Nearly $550 Million in Iran-Linked USDT Amid US Sanctions

Tether announced it has frozen approximately $550 million in USDT linked to Iran throughout 2026, following directives from the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and law enforcement. The company locked over $344 million in April and an additional $130 million in July across multiple TRON addresses associated with the Central Bank of Iran and the IRGC. This action follows the US Treasury's broader crackdown on Iranian financial networks, including sanctions against exchanges like Nobitex and BitBank, as part of Operation Economic Outcast.
