Dormant Bitcoin wallet burns $1M after 12 years of inactivity
A Bitcoin wallet dormant for nearly 12 years moved 20.00010537 BTC to a major centralized exchange in March, retrieved almost the entire amount three weeks later, and permanently burned the funds in May. Chainalysis confirmed the wallet is linked to four other addresses originating from the defunct Mt. Gox exchange. While some analysts suggest a fixed-dollar liquidation strategy was previously employed, the final act of burning the assets remains unexplained, as it required access to the private key and defies standard trading logic.
