U.S. FTC Launches Investigation into OpenAI, Anthropic, and AI Developers

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) initiated a broad investigation into leading AI labs, including OpenAI and Anthropic, on September 30, 2026. The regulator intends to examine potential consumer risks associated with their technologies and will request internal documents and testimony from company executives. The research organization METR is also included in the probe.
