Brazil's Petrobras Pilots Cardano for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Tracking

Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy giant, is testing the Cardano blockchain to track sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) benefits and prevent double-counting. Developed in collaboration with the Cardano Foundation and PUC-Rio University's Ledger Labs, the platform uses standardized CS-SAF tokens to represent environmental attributes. The system employs a Book-and-Claim model, allowing airlines and passengers to claim environmental benefits even when the fuel is used elsewhere. By retiring tokens on the blockchain, the project ensures that environmental claims cannot be reused, effectively preventing double-spending of carbon credits.
