Tokenized Fiat vs. Stablecoins: Analyzing the Digital Economy Landscape

The tokenization of financial assets is shifting the focus toward the medium of exchange used for digital settlements. While stablecoins have dominated this space as private tokens on public networks, the emergence of tokenized central bank money offers a new alternative. On September 21, the European Central Bank launched Pontes, an infrastructure designed to settle wholesale transactions of tokenized assets using central bank money. Unlike stablecoins, central bank money eliminates private issuer risk, providing a public settlement asset that maintains the singularity of the monetary system.
