Central Bank of Brazil Expands Oversight of Virtual Assets

The Central Bank of Brazil issued two resolutions, BCB No. 588 and No. 589, on September 23, 2026, to strengthen supervision of the virtual asset market. The new regulations expand mandatory reporting requirements to the Council for Financial Activities Control (Coaf) for transactions involving self-custody wallets and reorganize existing oversight frameworks.
