Bitget Hacker Moves $83 Million in XRP; XRPL Lacks Freeze Functionality

The hacker responsible for the Bitget exchange breach has transferred over 54 million XRP, valued at approximately $83 million, from the stolen funds. Unlike USDC or USDT, the XRP Ledger does not support asset freezing, leaving Ripple unable to intervene directly. The attacker is actively dispersing the funds across multiple wallets to avoid detection. Bitget has revised its total estimated loss to $387.5 million, including assets on the Zcash and TRON networks, and reiterated that its protection fund will cover all user losses. The exchange plans to resume withdrawals in phases, starting with Bitcoin on September 28.
