Cloudflare Executive Suggests Ethereum's Original Sharding Design Could Support Stablecoin Payments

Will Papper, director of product for agent payments at Cloudflare, stated that Ethereum's abandoned original sharding roadmap could be viable for stablecoin micropayments. Papper noted that while sharding proved too complex for DeFi due to price fragmentation across chains, it is well-suited for payments where the value remains consistent. Ethereum shifted to a rollup-centric roadmap in 2020, moving away from shard chains for computation.
