AI empowers scammers with increased operational efficiency

Artificial intelligence is significantly lowering the costs of running fraudulent operations by automating labor-intensive tasks such as maintaining fake identities and managing long-term conversations. According to FATF president Giles Thomson, AI allows small groups to perform work that previously required large-scale operations. Chainalysis data indicates that scam operations linked to AI vendors generate approximately $3.2 million in average on-chain revenue, compared to $719,000 for those without such links, highlighting the productivity gains criminals are achieving through automation.
