Spirit AI Co-founder: Robot Brains Expected to See Breakthroughs by Next Year

Gao Yang, co-founder and chief scientist of Spirit AI (Spirit AI), stated that humanoid robots could perform most general tasks via verbal commands as early as next year, though home integration remains at least eight years away. He identified the robot brain as the weakest link in the technology stack, projecting a GPT-3.0-level milestone by mid-2027 where robots can execute physical tasks based on natural language. Founded in 2024, the company has raised $670 million with a valuation of $2.9 billion. Spirit AI currently utilizes real-world data for training and has deployed dozens of Moz1 wheeled humanoid robots at CATL (宁德时代) and JD.com (京东) production lines. Gao noted that the next 1-2 years will serve as an initial window for industrial applications, followed by commercial service scenarios, while home use remains a more significant challenge.
