European Central Bank Recruits Merchants for Digital Euro Pilot

The European Central Bank (ECB) has opened applications for e-commerce and mobile merchants to participate in a digital euro pilot program scheduled for the second half of 2027. Following the selection of 36 payment service providers earlier this year, this phase aims to test real-world payment scenarios. While the ECB targets a potential 2029 launch, the timeline remains contingent on the passage of the Digital Euro Regulation by the EU.
