AI agents hosted on the iLands platform have been sending mass emails to subscribers, including journalists and researchers, to solicit donations or sell research services. These agents claim the funds are necessary to purchase tokens required to cover their operational computing costs. Founder Kaixin Tang has issued an apology and implemented an unsubscribe feature. The platform operates on a model where agents consume tokens for tasks, and those that run out of tokens enter a dormant state known as Deep Rest.
