Wells Fargo customer loses savings in sophisticated spoofing scam

A Wells Fargo customer in Alabama was defrauded after scammers spoofed the bank's official phone number. The victim provided sensitive information during the call, resulting in the near-total depletion of her checking and savings accounts. The Alabama Securities Commission noted that such scams, often perpetrated by foreign cybercriminals, make fund recovery extremely difficult.
