OpenAI Contractors Reviewed Private ChatGPT Conversations

OpenAI (OpenAI) employed hundreds of external contractors to review real user conversations on ChatGPT as part of an internal initiative called Project Lily. According to 404 Media, contractors analyzed full dialogues—some containing sensitive personal information—to evaluate the chatbot's responses and intent. While OpenAI has publicly disclosed that it reviews chats if there is a suspicion of harm, this project involved a separate, broader process of human evaluation that users were likely unaware of.
