Texas Woman Loses $50,000 in Jury Duty Scam Involving Bitcoin ATM

A Texas woman lost $50,000 after falling victim to a jury duty scam where fraudsters impersonated law enforcement from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. The scammers coerced the victim into withdrawing cash and depositing it into a Bitcoin ATM to resolve alleged federal jury duty warrants. Sheriff Eric Fagan noted that the scheme exploited fear and urgency to prevent the victim from verifying the claims. The sheriff's office clarified that it never demands payment over the phone to settle warrants and has launched a weekly alert initiative to warn the public about such fraud tactics.
