AI alignment researcher Paul Christiano joins OpenAI board and safety committee

OpenAI announced that Paul Christiano, founder of the Alignment Research Center, has joined the OpenAI Nonprofit board and its Safety and Security Committee. Christiano will also serve as a non-voting observer on the OpenAI Group PBC board. His background in AI alignment and his experience at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are expected to bolster the organization's oversight, independent evaluation of safety measures, and accountability in decision-making.
