OpenAI appoints AI safety researcher Paul Christiano to board

OpenAI has appointed AI alignment researcher Paul Christiano to its foundation board and the Safety and Security Committee. Christiano, a former OpenAI employee and founder of the Alignment Research Center (ARC), has expressed concerns regarding the rapid acceleration of AI capabilities and potential catastrophic risks. He will continue to serve as a US government AI safety advisor while recusing himself from OpenAI-specific model evaluations.
