Anza to Remove Floating-Point Operations from Solana Core Protocol
Solana core client developer Anza is systematically removing floating-point operations from the Solana protocol to mitigate consensus divergence risks. The first phase, SIMD-0391, was activated on mainnet beta epoch 1026, replacing floating-point math with fixed-point math in stake program and validator client logic. A second phase, SIMD-0607, is currently under review to address inflation rewards and rent calculation paths. Anza noted that inconsistent rounding across different hardware and compilers could threaten network consensus and liveness.
