Cloudflare to Launch Post-Quantum Certificate Authority

Cloudflare has announced plans to become a public Certificate Authority (CA) to issue both traditional TLS certificates and post-quantum Merkle Tree Certificates (MTC). The company has applied for root certificate inclusion in major browser and platform trust programs, including Chrome, Apple, Microsoft, and Mozilla. Additionally, Cloudflare has entered an agreement to acquire existing trusted root key material from GlobalSign to support legacy devices. The company expects to begin issuing MTCs in the first quarter of 2027, with standard certificates to be provided free of charge.
