BlackRock Identifies AI Agents as Future Stablecoin Demand Driver

BlackRock reports that autonomous AI agents are poised to drive significant demand for stablecoins as they begin facilitating machine-to-machine payments for data, services, and computing power. According to a mid-September 2026 research paper, stablecoins are ideal for these transactions due to their 24/7 settlement capabilities and efficiency in processing micropayments. While stablecoins are expected to lead in transactional use, the firm noted that AI-agent payment activity is still in its early stages. BlackRock also highlighted the potential for blockchain networks to facilitate the trading and collateralization of AI computing capacity, citing the massive scale of the cloud infrastructure market.
