Cisco Integrates Quantum Key Distribution into Routers

Cisco and UK-based KETS Quantum Security have demonstrated the integration of chip-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology with routers running Cisco IOS XR. The system utilizes QKD for automated key exchange and MACsec for traffic encryption across Ethernet networks. The companies intend to further develop this integration and explore additional use cases, building on the QKD support introduced in IOS XR in 2023.
