Cardano integrates with x402 to enable automated payments

Cardano has joined the x402 standard, allowing developers to integrate ADA and native network tokens into applications and AI agents for automated payments. The x402 protocol utilizes the HTTP 402 'Payment Required' status code to facilitate direct transactions between clients and online services without the need for subscriptions or account creation. While a successful transaction has been executed on the pre-production network, the feature has not yet been deployed on the mainnet. Coinbase launched the x402 standard in 2025.
