Lawson Launches AI-Conceived Products in Japan, Including Pickle-Flavored Lemon Tart
Japanese convenience store chain Lawson (LAWSON) began selling three new products on September 29 across the Kanto and Koshin'etsu regions, all of which were conceptualized by generative AI. The lineup includes a pickle-flavored lemon tart priced at 270 yen, a sake yeast red bean butter yogurt bread for 181 yen, and a Japanese-style rice flour salad for 475 yen. Lawson intentionally excluded historical sales data from the AI's development process to encourage unconventional combinations. While the AI provided the initial concepts, human developers refined the taste and appearance before production.
