SEC Commissioner Peirce: Tokenized stock venues could emerge next quarter

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce and Taylor Lindman, chief legal counsel for the SEC's crypto working group, stated that the first tokenized stock trading venues could begin to take shape by next quarter. Under a new five-year conditional exemption, platforms are permitted to facilitate the trading of tokenized versions of US-listed stocks on public, permissionless blockchains using automated market makers. Companies must publish operational plans and notify the SEC to participate. Peirce noted that while there are caps on trading volume and stock quantities, they are sufficient for viable operations, serving as a bridge toward long-term regulations.
