CFTC Submits Crypto Market Regulation Plan to White House

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) submitted a regulatory proposal titled "Regulating Crypto Asset Trading and Market Oversight" to the White House for review on September 17. This move follows the failure of the CLARITY Act in the Senate and signals the agency's intent to establish jurisdiction over the sector. CFTC Chair Michael Selig and SEC Chair Paul Atkins have both indicated that regulators will proceed with oversight efforts regardless of legislative progress. The plan reportedly explores allowing crypto exchanges to register as Designated Contract Markets (DCM), enabling them to offer leveraged or margin trading under CFTC supervision.
