AI Giants Anthropic, OpenAI, and Others Face Collusion Lawsuit Over Calls to Slow AI Development

Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceX AI, and Google are facing a civil lawsuit alleging collusion after calling for coordinated efforts to slow AI development. The complaint argues that public statements by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, supported by Elon Musk (SpaceX AI), Sam Altman (OpenAI), and Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind), constitute an illegal business agreement among competitors under US antitrust law. Plaintiffs' counsel Nick Rowley stated the suit aims to prevent private agreements among tech companies from allowing AI to spiral out of human control, asserting that such governance should be established transparently by the US government.
