Polygon to Deploy Permissionless Burn Contract for 100 Million POL

Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal announced plans to deploy a permissionless burn contract, enabling the permanent destruction of 100 million POL tokens. This amount represents approximately 83% of the 121 million tokens currently held in the network's base fee collector. The contract is currently live on the testnet and awaits final signatures from the security council before mainnet deployment. Following the initial burn, community members will be able to trigger subsequent burns on a quarterly basis. While this action removes 1% of the initial 10 billion POL supply, it does not establish a hard cap, as POL will continue to undergo annual inflation of approximately 2% after June 2025.
