Elon Musk resides in RV to oversee xAI Memphis data center

Elon Musk has moved into an Airstream trailer near the xAI Memphis data center to personally oversee the construction of the Colossus project by SpaceX, aiming to eliminate commute times. Musk has been stationed in Memphis for several months as SpaceX works to bring more GPUs online. Following the acquisition of xAI by SpaceX earlier this year, the company has pivoted to focus on both aerospace and artificial intelligence, with the Memphis facility serving as a flagship data center. SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell noted that this hands-on approach is typical of Musk. The Colossus facility, which began construction in 2024, is now leasing its remaining computing power to clients including Google and Anthropic.
