Vitalik Buterin Demonstrates Local AI Performance on Laptop

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin tested Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Flash-Next model locally on his laptop, which features an AMD Strix Halo chip. By utilizing a unified memory architecture, the device successfully ran the 125-billion parameter model without cloud connectivity. Buterin noted that while performance is sufficient for standard tasks, processing extremely long documents remains a challenge. The model, which activates only six billion parameters at a time, demonstrates the growing feasibility of running sophisticated AI models on consumer hardware.
