AI Infrastructure Boom Drives US Trade Deficit to New Highs
The US trade deficit reached its highest level since March 2025 as July goods imports rose by 3.7% while exports fell by 2.9%. Capital goods imports, including semiconductors and computer equipment, saw their largest increase since 1993. This surge is attributed to the massive influx of AI server components, high-performance accelerators, and data center infrastructure required for the ongoing AI build-out.
